Drummond 03/03/2006
A John Sayles film that incorporates into a complex plot a celebate love interest between the cynical paraplegic ex-actress played by Mary McDonnel, and a former high schoolmate handyman played by David Straithern. Alfre Woodard plays a junkie-turned-nurse in an odd-couple sort of relationship with the ex-actress, who had taken lessons to rid herself of a southern accent, but slowly regains it after returning home to the Bayou - which is filmed in appropriate majesty with rich symbolism between the various aspects of the swamp and the stories of each character. Good musical score. Great acting by everyone involved. Humor. A mellow movie - not for the action movie crowd.
