This is often used in parliamentary bodies. A good example is the U. S. Senate Filibuster Rule of 60 votes. Many local bodies require a supermajority public vote to raise taxes or pass a bond issue. (Add picture)

We use this in the USA all the time. This is the filibuster rule in the Senate for instance that requires a 60% vote to end debate.

This is the rule that saved Bill Clinton from removal from office. It takes a 2/3 vote to remove a President after impeachment and the opposition to Clinton didn't have the votes.

It also takes a supermajority to amend the U. S. Constitution.
