I liked him better as an actor later but he actually gave me the creeps as a kid when I saw him in the Sound of Music. He was cold, mean and lipless...I only half believed he actually fell in love with Maria.

He stole my heart in"Sound of Music" too! Then there was the sequal to National Velvet, International Velvet with Anthony Hopkins and Tatum O'Neil. He was sexy in that one too!
