David is one of the most inspiring person in the history. He is a clear image of what all Christians are, with their faults and their virtues. David walked in the valleys of death and on the peaks of the mountains of glory. He was human to the bone. and let's not forget that Jesus is said to come again and sit on the throne of David. That by itself should say it all.

David is actually my fav ancient celebrity, even today David is still inspiring us....Because Saul was such a man full with jealousy, and animosity against David for no reason, that's why he was killed. But because also David has great relations with God, and confess his sins to God, and trusts him all the time, and God has found out that he is loyal to him, and the Israelites, brave young man who fears nothing but God, is why he has been chosen. Every man God chooses as an instrument is first being examined, his heart, mind, and actions, then his character. Many Kings in the ancient biblical times, do not survive war. Some either die directly from diseases, others die in their enemies hands. Others had their both Kingdom, and wealth being handed over to their enemies, including their lives, and this is because of their wicked ways, and merciless hearts. But David always recognizes his bad ways, and change them, and say sorry to his God.

Four times David was likened to an angel of the Lord. Everything he did pleased the loyal Israelites, all the Israelites that were loyal to God were loyal to him as well. He had many, many, many children. He had seven brothers. Elhanan, one of his elite knights, was also from Bethlehem, and slew evil Nephilim for the Israelites. David was given credit for this.

David ordered his men to kill a very loyal, righteous, God-fearing Amalekite soldier for the killing of Saul, the disgraced, disowned King of Israel. It was Saul's fault for not knowing or being able to commit suicide properly and putting the both of them in a terrible situation.

I cant see David as a hero. He is too fallible and too contradictory. Every good and righteous thing he ever did, he counterbalanced with an evil, sinful thing. I find him an interesting character definitely, sometimes inspiring and sometimes appalling. Not heroic, however.

God picked him out to be the leader of the Israelites when he was just a teen-aged shepherd boy. He went from shepherd to king. However, he wasn't without fault when he lusted after Bathesheba and had her husband killed in battle (their firstborn child was stillborn - God took the child away as David's punishment).
