One of the best little man fights ever. I LOVED ALEXIS, wanted him 2 win this fight badly. Did not think Pryor had it in him, but proved me wrong. Heard that fighters (Leonard,Hearns) avoided Pryor. Great fight. Arguello started strong, Pryor took everything Arguello had 2 offer and took him out late..............Crushing  Knock out  Hellava beat down.................

One of Boxing's greatest fights and one of my personal favorite. Arguello was moving up to challenge Pryor for the the WBA Junior Welterweight title. It was hard to believe that anyone could have taken the right hands that Arguello was throwing, solid accurate right hands. Arguello suffered a devastating 14th round knockout. He was never quite the same after this fight and lost the rematch the following year. This fight will forever be tainted by Panama Lewis and the mysterious bottle incident, which is given credence by Lewis' later actions in several other fights, including the Billy Collins jr.vs Luis Resto fight where Lewis removed the padding from Resto's glove, causing permanent damage to Collins eyes, and ending his career. Collins died in a suspicious auto accident several months later. Both Lewis and Resto served jail time and were forever banned from boxing. Despite the controversy, the fight itself is a classic.

If it weren't for 'The Fight' (Marvin Hagler vs. Thomas Hearns), this fight might have been considered the best of the 1980's. How the great Aaron "The Hawk" Pryor was able to withstand those lethal headshots for fourteen rounds, only to deliver a flurry and send the equally great Alexis Arguello to a technical knockout defeat is beyond me. But for the entire length of the fight, neither fighter backed down from the other- often delivering and trading shots in multitudes, and sending their crowd partisans to a frenzy. It's only appropriate that both are now in the Hall of Fame and are intertwined with each other in the annals of boxing history.

I remember this. Awesome fight. If I remember correctly, Arguello was trying to become the 1st fighter ever to hold titles in 4 different weight classes.

Two of the best fighters of their time. Pryor beat Hearns at amateur and avoided by Leonard, Arguello amazing at lightweight. both stood toe to toe without a clinch. Had arguello been 10yrs younger maybe a different outcome but what a fight.
