 | irishgit (138) 04/24/2008 | I wouldn't call it a civic duty, but its a practical necessity for most of us.
On the other hand, making a deliberate choice to be a burden on the body politic, is abrogating one's civic responsibility
And finally, scroll down a few reviews and read m.a. duron's excellent review which is an excellent warning against extremes

 | ma duron (62) 09/15/2007 | Most of us believe that a "...little bit of it never hurt anyone." Nevertheless, we never must forget deceitful extremists who pervert the notion, as took place in contemporary history as involuntary workers of a certain persuasion entered a labor site, under a sign above the gate that read "Arbeit Mach Frei."

 | pugwash01 (15) 05/08/2007 | If you do not work, this world will not allow you to survive. (Yes you can get welfare, but come on how much does that really help!!) I would not say it is a "Civic duty" But more of the fact that you need to work, to support yourself and or your family!!!

 | LanceRoxas (40) 08/23/2006 | Not if Im rich as the day is long! LOL I'll pay taxes but working is not an obligation so long as I'm providing for those I'm obligated to take care of. If I'm doing that and I'm rolling in dough- screw you! Im sitting on my fat ass and eating steaks and lobster til it comes out my ears, having hot swimsuit models rub my back all day and betting on sports until I run out of money...
and then will of course need to go back to work...LOL

 | Randyman (103) 08/22/2006 | This goes far beyond civic duty. It's a moral obligation; to yourself, your family, your community and beyond. If you're not working you're a burden to society. Minus a true medical condition, there really is no excuse for any abled body man or woman, not to work.

 | zuchinibut (36) 08/22/2006 | I think working is an incredibly important duty that all people should participate in. There are obvious cases where the elderly, children, and disabled are not able to participate, but the able bodied should not refuse to work. Even if you are volunteering or raising kids, you are being productive. I consider that work. But both poor people who wait for welfare or charity and the wealthy who sit on their money are not doing their civic duty to work.
