I admit to being a Luddite about certain things and I assume I'm in the minority on this, but given the jarring assault of sounds, images, and videos that now constitute some members' profile pages I avoid visting said pages unless I absolutely have to.
VirileVagabond makes a good point. The feature does have its positive uses. I'm afraid its already been overdone in many cases, however.

I look at this as a huge development for Weblists. Instead of rating just words, we can now rate video, audio, photos, and all other types of media.

Alrighty, now we're talkin' with the ability to embed links, etc. in item descriptions. Since I have a lot of music related weblists, I've wanted for some time to have links to each song for members to hear what they're rating. With this new feature, I've been going back and adding embedded videos (if available) to each item. I'm also sure there will be other uses for this feature for other types of lists. My only concern is that some members won't exercise reasonable restraint and will clutter up lists, items and comments with too many bells and whistles. Of course, clutter is in the eyes of the beholder, so we'll have to see how things pan out. The bottom line is an easy five stars for an improvement with limitless potential.
