As far as her music, it's cheesiness personified, even though a few of her songs are guilty pleasures of mine. As an actress, I'm not sure if I'd qualify her as great, but she is very good. As Djahuti mentions, she was particularly effective in "Mask". Probably the most talented of the musicians-who-became-actors.

I believe her debut was as in a supporting role in Silkwood, where she was so good I actually forgot it was her about 10 minutes into the film. She's often carried bad movies into the realm of decent entertainment in movies, and when she's got a great script to work with she shines. There are some of her personality characteristics that rub me the wrong way, but that's probably true of anybody and she hangs herself out there for public view with rare candor.
