Borat - The Movie 3

I like the skits on the Ali G Show better. The movie had too much plot. A stupid plot.

Borat - The Movie 4

a 4.5. There are many funny moments and it can be offensive at the time, but that's the whole point.

Borat - The Movie 3

Admittedly, I went into the theatres expecting to see the funniest movie this century based upon all the hype, so maybe I was poised for a letdown. When I left the theatre I wondered what all the fus was about. The Jackass guys did everything Borat did but on a different level. They risked far more injury to themselves but didn't get nearly the ratings. Sachen Baron Cohen, while hilarious in Da Ali G Show, didn't win me over on this one. Many scenes got annoying rather than funny, aka the rodeo, the frat guys, the Pam Anderson book signing, and the naked scene with the fat guy was way over the top.

Borat - The Movie 4

I thought the movie was very funny but I don't think it's as good as the Ali G Show.

Borat - The Movie 5

This movie is the exact type of shock our overly sensitive pc culture needed. I haven't laughed this hard at the movie theatre in, well, at least a decade. High Fives all around ;-)

Borat - The Movie 5

I always resisted watching the "Ali G" show when it came on HBO. I think it followed "Curb Your Enthusiasm", which I watched religiously, but the opening sequence of the "white rapper" never interested me, and I would quickly turn the channel to something else. However, my younger brother, whose opinion and sense of taste I respect, said, "No, this guy is a genius, and he'll bring tears to your eyes from laughing so hard." So, when a friend asked me to see "Borat", I was more than willing. What can I say? Better late than never? Hilarious, irreverent, brilliant, ballsy...Cohen is all of this and more. I laughed from the beginning of the film until the end, something I never do. And Cohen has stones of iron; after seeing this film, I'm only surprised that he was assaulted once (so far). There were actually parts of the film where I cringed as I laughed, saying, "Oh, no, he's not going to do what I think he is." And, of course, he did...that and more. This film holds up a caustically unflattering mirror to American society and culture, for sure, but I can't imagine that even the most jingoistic crowd of hard-core nativists won't find at least some of this movie absolutely hilarious. Cohen is supremely brave...you have to consider what he's doing here, the chances he's taking. There's no opportunity for re-takes, or "cuts", or 2nd attempts. Some portions of the film are undoubtedly staged (I'm sure Pam Anderson had to be in on the joke), but only a very small portion. I find myself cracking up out loud in the car still as I remember one particular segment or another (the relatively short scene with Republican Bob Barr always works), and I don't think I've done that over any so-called "comedy" since the days of "Animal House" or "Monty Python's Holy Grail". Even with those justifiably venerated masterpieces, I didn't laugh as constantly as I did here. By the end of "Borat", I was in actual pain from laughing so much. Be warned...there's a lot here that will offend those of tender sensibilities, and I guess that's part of the point. Cohen never misses an opportunity to probe the festering sore of American pomposity and moronic self-imporance with his scalpel-like wit. Cohen is an absolutely fearless, absolutely brilliant comedic kamikaze with an unerring sense of the absurb, and if he's not quite yet a genius of the caliber of a Lenny Bruce or a Richard Pryor, he's a gaping chasm away from the humorless banality of an Adam Sandler or a David Spade. If only for that reason, "Borat" is deserving of high praise...that and the fact that it's one of the funniest movies you're likely to ever see in an American movie theatre. For all those jaded connoiseurs of comedy like myself who thought "Animal House" was the last worthwhile example of the genre to come out of Hollywood..."Borat" is a can't-miss, must-see movie.

Borat - The Movie 4

A co-worker of mine paged my area to ask me if I saw "Borat". I responded "yes". He asked what I thought of it. I thought a bit, and answered the only thing I could come up with: "Offensively funny". SYNOPSIS: Kazakhstan's reporter goes out to interview (and piss off) Americans, well, to gain "Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan". PROS & CONS: I can't really separate the pros & cons for this one. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. If you can get past the gross wrongness of it all, it's pretty damn funny. You're probably going to be at least somewhat offended in one way or another, unless you're immune to racial jabs, gay jokes, public masturbation, or naked, fat, hairy men on top of naked, skinny hairy men (the latter of which sent me into convulsions . . . I mean, ew . . . ) Oddly enough, there are some portions of the movie where you'll likely be more disturbed by the people he meets rather than Borat himself (as some people were a little, well, "open" with their views . . . like the man at the rodeo). It's an interesting experiment of America's hospitality and how far politeness goes. OVERALL: See this movie. Unless you're a wee bit sensitive.

Borat - The Movie 4

Borat's been cracking me up for a couple of years now, and I had high hopes for the movie. Parts of it definitely delivered - it's rare that I laugh out loud at movies, but this one had me going a couple of times. A lot of Borat is pretty uncomfortable as well. I found myself fearing for his physical safety at times - Sacha Baron Cohen has some serious cajones. I do think that the Borat personality works a little better in short doses as it appears on Ali G. By the end of the movie, I was starting to get a little tired of it. This is a crude, rude, and daring flick - and shows a somewhat scary underside to the US, as well as some really patient, caring people who put up with Borat's antics (the Southern woman who teaches Borat who to wipe his rear end is especially patient).

Borat - The Movie 5

Good review by dtfmiller.. thanks. I'm a big Borat fan and I have every intention of seeing the movie. By the way, the Kazakhstan government's PR machine has been working overtime trying to distance itself from this movie. They're really concerned that the world will think that Borat is a representative of the Kazakh government! Do they really think the world will believe that urine drinking is a Kazakh national sport?

Borat - The Movie 5

Borat is the fictional Kazaki reporter created by the British comedian, Sacha Baron Cohen. Since his inception some years ago, Borat has been busily insulting and offending just about every single ethnic and national group on earth. Now, in his first feature length movie in which to unleash his moustachioed madness, Borat is touring the USA in order to 'build cultural understanding'. In the process he manages to upset a whole rodeo full of rootin', tootin' cowboys, wrestle naked onstage at a corporate convention and escape from the 'evil claws' of a sweet elderly Jewish couple. His mission? To track down, kidnap and forcibly marry Pamela Anderson. Simple really! In the process the audience will be witness to what is undoubtedly one of the groundbreaking - in terms of taboo busting - pieces of cinematic satire. Cohen, who is Jewish himself, has clearly made it his life's mission to walk a fine line between offence, comedy and revelation. The offence comes through the depiction of such scenes as the annual 'Running of the Jews' in Kazakistan. The comedy comes in every scene - fast, hard and relentless (if a little bit guilty at times). And the revelation, which is what sets Cohen apart, comes when the first two elements blend together with perfect timing in order to lure people in agreeing wholeheartedly with Borat's professed prejudices. But rest assured, Cohen is no preacher and, above all else, the new Borat movie is first and foremost a comedy so hilarious that I sincerely advise you to bring a change of underwear with you to the theatre.
