Did anyone else see this obese loser try to destroy the President at the Oscars? For a MOVIE DIRECTOR to lash out like that at his elected leader is appaling. This idiot has no power at all to say what he said last night. Don't these thickly headed people realize that your protests only cause out troops' morale to sink? No, Mr. Moore, YOU should be ashamed of yourself.

I loved what he had to say at the Oscars while all the other frightened wimps at the ceremony sat mute and scared. I had never seen any of his work but as a result of his ability to tell the truth at that ceremony I went to see Bowling for Columbine and loved it, even though I am a supporter of the NRA! I don't HAVE to agree with everything he has to say but since I am not afraid of a person not having my exact opinions I could enjoy it and look forward to his next documentary. I noticed lots of opinions about his appearance and excess weight. Frankly, I thought his physical appearance was no worse than that Hollywood crowd, aerobicized, plasticized, botoxed within an inch of their lives. Has the right wing forgotten how fat one of their "holy men", namely Russ Limbaugh used to be. Incidentally, the people in Washington who screamed the loudest that we should support our troops just voted to cut medical benefits for our veterans.

Loved to listen him stick it to the Loser at 1600. I do worry that shrub's minions will try to silence him.

He is annoying and self-absorbed but he gets a five with me for speaking out against Bush. All of the wacko's on this site who call hima traitor need to re-evaluate what makes America a great place. I've said it before and I'll probably say it again- if you call Michael Moore, the Dixie Chicks and Tim Robbins traitors for speaking out against Bush, then you have lost sight of what it means to be American and you don't deserve your right to freedom of speech. Bush is a president, (and a very poor one at that) not a damn monarch with absolute power.
The Real Truth 05/23/2003
Poor Mr. Michael Moore went to bed in the USA and woke up in Iraq. Before he fell asleep it was okay to speak your mind in America. That's what this country was founded on...debate and democracy. But now, don't question the pre-emptive Bush war or they'll label you a traitor. Whatever. The blind loyalist who go along with their party even when they disagree in their hearts are the real traitors. Michael gets a three for having the courage to speak his convictions.
liquidlen 05/10/2003
A funny guy. Needs to drop the far left conspiracies. There are plenty of injustices happening right out in the open without going into tinfoil-hat territory. Loses a star for credibility there, but I'm giving it back on contingency. His next move needs to be perfect, and GWB should make that easy.

The great thing about living in America is the first amendment which guarantees our freedom of speech; for those of you who haven't read it. But Michael Moore chose the wrong time and place to abuse that right. It was very inappropriate of him to make a speech like that in our country's time of crisis. The jack ass should be sent back to Canada.

Talk about over-rated! You DO NOT speak for me!
Doug Thompson 04/08/2003
What a pompous jack-ass....come to think of it, the directors of the same-named movie should have used Moore's pictur to market their film. Perhaps Moore should do a docu-film on "Joe Camel" in Baghdad.....perhaps he would be able to see why our troops are there. "Moore-ons" like this person have no idea how fortunate we are to be able to voice our dissention without fear of police intervention. But, along with our liberties does come responsibilities....I guess Moore can't realize that for himself.....what a jack ass....
NickDanger 03/31/2003
It's amusing to watch the Right telling Michael Moore he ought to honor his First Amendment rights by shutting the hell up, when their own media pets--Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Gordon Liddy, Cal Thomas, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., are AT LEAST as obnoxious and outrageous in their own (extreme) right. Should we consider the source, and take Moore's statements with a grain of salt? Absolutely. The same is also true of the far-right-wing provocateurs listed above and all their brethren, which at this point in our history greatly outnumber their left-wing opponents, both in number and audience size--and whose outrageous pronouncements tend to be accepted by their followers as gospel truth, even when their falsity is easily demonstrated. The trouble with our national discourse is that too few people apply any kind of critical intelligence to what they hear on the radio or see on the tube. One reason for this is that the mainstream media has gotten really good at spoon-feeding the public what used to be called the "establishment" line, another is the current drastic imbalance in the kind of extremist views that are being heard. The extreme Right is frighteningly well represented in the media, but though there is no shortage of responsible liberal commentators (the type a true leftist would dismiss as "centrist," or "middle-of-the-road"), there are no left-wing firebrands, no entertainingly obnoxious polemical blowhards with anything close to Mr. Limbaugh's reach. Moore is as close as the Left gets. The national debate NEEDS him; what's more, it could use about a dozen MORE of him, out there getting in people's faces on a daily basis. Maybe then tht right-wing commentators' fans would, by comparison, be better able to see their own extremism for what it is; and maybe we might come as a nation to realize that the truth lies somewhere BETWEEN the two noisy extremes.
WilShakes1 03/31/2003
Say what you like about his lack of manners or his weight issues, he's a useful corrective to the myth of the "liberal media" and a welcome thorn in the side of the powerful and arrogant. Sometimes to get at the truth--truth the government and the corporate media doesn't want told--it is necessary to act like a jerk, and I'm glad there's someone out there like Moore who has the stones to do it.
anmalone 03/30/2003
A childishly stupid no talent whose specialty is "guerrilla" camera ambushes of normal people with a smug ill informed self-righteous manner that the left has perfected. His performances are mainly appreciated by simple minded, unsophisticated obsessively self-absorbed dolts who don’t mind being on the losing side of every argument for the last 80 years.

FIRSTLY: The only people that i've run into so far that are anti bush, are also anti-american government...ie,unamerican or anti-america. Also they seem to be people that have no understanding of politics and how our government works..also they seem to be people that are flaming liberals...you know...drugs should be legalised, prostitution should be legalised, and we shouldn't be told by anyone, police or fed what we can and can't do after 11pm...these are the kinds of idiots that i've noticed seem to have the anti-american,anti-bush attitude...throwbacks from the 70's hippy era and / or school students that we see on the talk shows that have no idea of how government works 'nor why we're even fighting the war to begin with(but yet the media still interviews these young ignorant students as though everyone is supposed to take their attitudes of the war seiously). so next time someone moans and bitches about the american government as though they're nazis, consider the source...unintelligent or just plain not informed(or both).

Michael Morre is a God send. Sure people can bitch and moan about what he did at the Oscars, but for no good reason. To those who say "It was an inappropriate time to say those things," I say: why? What the hell is so sacred about the Oscars? The one night that all of Hollywood comes out to give itself oral sex is nothing sacred and it is irresponsible, in my view, for anyone who has the spotlight on him/her to not use that time to try to get across and actual message with actual value. And to those who say, "We should all support the troops right now," you are right we should all support the troops right now, but last time I did a reality check portesters in the streets and Michael Morre are alot more concerned about our young men and women dieing then the rest of you war hawks. How the hell do you possibly, on any mental level, equate being against war with being against our young men and women serving in the military? In addition, nothing Michael Morre said was untrue: Bush did steal the election. How? Because Al Gore won the popular vote and in any respectable democracy that equates to getting the office. Furthermore, democracy, especially ours, is based upon being able to criticize politicians on any level when you feel like they are doing a diservice to the American people. The idea that you are somehow "Unamerican" if you disagree with this administration is floated by blow hard know nothings like Rush Limbaugh, but THINK FOR YOURSELVES. Just because Rushy says its unpatriotic- whatever the hell that means- to protest doesn't make it so.

TV Nation and his movies are all pretty entertaining and raise important issues you won't really hear about from other sources, but sadly Mr. Moore tends to favor entertainment & satire over fair treatment of his subjects. Moore's well-founded reputation for manipulating facts and bullying those he's criticizing makes it easy for people to disregard the points he's making and harder for people who agree with everything but his spin to support him. I sometimes think Moore does about as much good for grassroots movements as Rush Limbaugh does for conservatives. Even so, I had to bump him from "Bad" to "OK" because his movies are still pretty fresh and entertaining (it'd be "Good" or "Great" if he didn't favor showmanship over integrity so much). You just have to admire the guy's guts; if nothing else, he demonstrates that the individual citizen can still make some noise in the face of big government and big business. I just wish Moore would make his noise a lot less dogmatic and a lot more factual.
musicfan 03/27/2003
The Oscars are a night to honor film and the people who make films. It is not a public forum for political opinion. Michael Moore has no civility. He is crude and irresponsible. Americans should respect the office of the President of the United States.
swanoak 03/27/2003
When he got out of his seat to accept the award I couldn't believe that an unkempt, dirty individual would be getting an award. Then his mouth opened and spewed out filth and garbage to match his appearance. Is this the best Hollywood has to offer??
tscottyd 03/26/2003
His OPINION at the Oscar's was not only fact-less and ridiculous it was wholly inappropriate when, for better or worse, men and women, who happen to be citizen's of the United States, are in harm's way fighting for freedom, democracy and the very liberties that Mr. Moore so flaunted on international television. He has the right to his opinion but to take advantage of the situation and spew such anti-american hatred on television showed a huge amount of tact-less lunacy.

He is an ignorant BUFFOON! That obese pacifist has not the physical stamina nor intestinal fortitude to run with the big dogs; instead, he along with all of the other wimpy, lazy pups want to whine and howl from the porch instead!!! Here's a proposition for you Michael (and all of the other whiney war protesters): since you are so damn against what our soldiers are doing to save YOUR asses (your homes, your families' well- being, your FREEDOM and FUTURE), then why don't YOU go to these countries and solve these conflicts for the rest of us!!!! Let's see how far you get! Sorry, your celebrity status won't help you much here, I'm afraid. Oh, and try talking to some of the foreign leaders in the same tone in which you trash our President and our country; you take for granted that we don't punish our insubordinates the way that their countries do. You just don't get it, do you? I'd lay a bet that once the security blanket (ie: FREEDOM) is abruptly yanked from your fat little hands, you would suddently appreciate the efforts that our President and armed forces are putting forth to keep you fed, and pacified, and which also affords you the luxury of blasting your ignorant opinions where IT NEVER WILL BE DESIRED! Shut your trap Michael; go through basic training--you need the workout, both physically and mentally! You are a disgraceful IDIOT!

I'm glad that he's bringing up topics that really need to be discussed, but at the same time, I'm a litle concerned about why he's doing it. From what I can tell from looking up various sources online (both for and against M. Moore), he seems to either exaggerate or fabricate "facts", and sometimes uses techniques that may be misleading. I'm glad that he brought to light the plight of the GM workers in Flint, MI, but then several sources note that, despite the film being lucrative, he hasn't made an effort to help the same people that he used in his film! I'm hoping I'm wrong here, but it just doesn't seem right to exploit a town's downfall, make a lot of money out of it, then not give anything back to the people? Moore criticizes the media's bombardment of fear on American society, but the film's visuals (for "Bowling for Columbine") are similarly shocking and seemed to be used to illicit the same horror response that the same media he criticizes uses as well. Moore brings up many important issues that need to be discussed, but I'm wondering if he's doing it for the right reasons. I encourage people to look up more information about these movies and about the filmmaker--in doing so myself, I'm finding out a lot of interesting things (noting that many sites are going to be biased in either way). You might want to try: http://www.michaelmoore.com, http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/873586/posts
Mr. Gone 03/25/2003
I'm so sick of this bloated jerk. People have been saying that it took courage for him to do what he did but that's bogus. When Moore got up on stage he thought he was going to get a big standing ovation from the Hollywood crowd and for a second I was afraid that he might. However, I was relieved when the majority of the crowd booed his fat ass off the stage. I can accept the fact that Moore takes a lot of liberties when presenting his version of the truth in his documentaries, but his behavior at the awards truely showed him as the exploitive, self serving, ungrateful creep that he is. I'm sure that our soldiers in Iraq right now were thrilled to hear that they are risking their lives for a fictional purpose, fighting a fictitous war, and being led by a fictitious president. For Moore to get up there and still be crying about the election is pathetic. Nobody cares about Gore (and I'm saying this as somebody who voted for him), he had his chance and he blew it, even Clinton called him a loser. Moore's made a ton of money by bashing this country and the least he could do is show an ounce of class and keep his hard on for G.W. to himself while he accepted his little statue.
Aurielle 03/25/2003
I really can't say whether or not Moore deserved an Oscar or not, but his speech was unforgiveable. "We have a fictional President from a fictional election and now we're fighting a fictional war." Hmmm, I don't think it's so fictional, you pompous ass, when our men are coming home in body bags, 60 Marines are MIA, and 7 of our soldiers are POWs. I don't think the real and obvious loss of lives is fiction. I don't think the pain and sorrow is fiction. And I don't think he should have used that opportunity to try to make our men and women in arms feel guilty about their cause. If you want "fiction" try listening to the lies that Saddam Hussein keeps telling to his own regime.
kyes 03/25/2003
That was an aweful thing for this man to say. I burst into tears upon hearing it; wondering how it would make the soldiers feel. Those people who would die to protect him and his right to insult them. Maybe some of the protesters support the troops, but this guy certainly does not. Everything the troops are doing right now, all their efforts and lives risked and lost, he basically just told them it's all a big joke. These young people who have volunteered their careers and even their lives to serve their country and commander in cheif - he's saying that everything they do; their lives and their choices, are all a joke. Yes, this is America and he can say whatever he wants. But I will exercise MY freedom to say that in my opinion, making such statements at a time like this is distasteful and flat-out dishonorable.
ratetruth12 03/25/2003
Since all this crap about pre-emptive this and pre-emptive that it has suddenly become ok to shoot first and ask questions later. In the case of Michael Moore, he is a good man, and all of his movies/documentaries are great! I have never been to a movie where the entire audience cries and seconds later is laughing their asses off! Bowling for columbine is a great movie, people should really know something about this man before they draw their conclusions. Finally, everyone who has heard of Michael Moore knows what he is about. Everyone in the audience knew what he was about, they still gave him a standing O when he won the oscar. But when he did what everyone knew he would do, everyone was shocked and awed, crazy.
SarahJ 03/24/2003
Yeah, hes a talented documentary maker. And yeah, he has the right to free speech, but what he said at the Academy Awards - even if it is how a lot of people feel, was completely inappropriate. We should be supporting the soldiers overseas, not making harsh political comments on an awards show.
missranger1 03/24/2003
Michael Moore is joke! He gave a one sided view and you bought it, Oprah. How about facing the truths in this world. You obviously have an agenda and it doesn't include revealing the truth. The truth is, there is evil in this world. Many people in Iran value your life like they value a mosquitos life-face it! Guns don't kill people, people kill people. How about making people accountable for there actions instead of " I don't believe in the death penalty." It's not wrong to own a gun and protect yourself. It's wrong to own a gun with the intent to commit a crime. Michael Moore is the villian here because he sugar coats his lies. His concern is to play off people emotions thus making a buck. I want the truth, and the truth is there are many, many people in Detroit who are dangerous including Blacks. Get real Michael Moore. And as for bashing Bush, I have more respect for a man who prays for guidance and does what is right than for a jackass like Micahel Moore. The truth is Oprah, ever since the world began there has been evil people, and to try and make it like all human beings are "godly", is not only naive, but evil itself. You and Michael Moore want to take the easy way out by being passive and not acknowledging the good of the American people. You are not the person I thought you were. How could you have bought into Michael Moore's crap? You've lost a viewer.
sfalconer 03/24/2003
Last night I lost all respect for this a$$ wipe. This is a guy that makes a living out of other peoples grief. Another one who should move to France, who would fit right in.

He is brilliant! I loved "Bowling for Columbine". And what he said at the Oscars took balls. I really admire him for that.
Molfan 03/24/2003
Whether I think he deserved an Oscar for his documentary or not, Michael Moore should have kept his opinions to himself. The Academy Awards were no place to air his feelings in politics and war. Other celebrites who are known for being outspoken restrained themselves.Besides i felt sorry for all of the other people he dragged up on stage and then started in with his protests. I wonder how they felt?By the way some of the audience reacted, they did not like his "speech" either.Too bad he did not show more class like Adrien Brody did, just saying he wished for peace not matter what the beliefs were.
CastleBee 03/24/2003
I admit that I’ve enjoyed some of Michael Moore’s documentaries in the past. But, though he has had a few hits over the years, for the most part, my impression of him now is that he makes a very lucrative living bitching and moaning about his own belief system instead of trying to present completely factual, unbiased information. Whether “Bowling for Columbine” deserved an Oscar or not, it's still too bad that its producer chose that particular night to show us what an opportunistic sleaze he really is. What he spewed spoke more toward advancing his own reputation as a self-appointed controversial advocate than anything else. And, at this particular time, it screamed volumes about the man’s character or lack of. It was to be expected. And, though he didn’t let his fan base down, he did let the young men and women of the armed services down by not being able to override his personal grievances in favor of a simple sign of support for those now unavoidably in harms way. No, he doesn’t have to agree with what’s going on any more than anyone else. But he might have tried to pick a better time and place. I guess slipping in a whiney bitch about the last election, the current administration and the war in the middle east as you accept an award - which will assure you an even more inflated income in the future - IS cheaper than making another documentary. For my part, I think it wouldn’t hurt Mr. Moore and his colleagues if they at last learned that they are allowed to have an unexpressed thought occasionally. I personally think he made a total 60’s retro ass of himself last night at the Oscars. I was happy to see that some of the other presenters and award recipients managed to take the high road for once and showed an uncharacteristic bit of control and, in one case at least, even a bit of class. I hope Moore was paying attention when Steve Martin made the most gracious and thankfully, final remark of the evening, ” "To the men and women overseas -- we are thinking of you. Why? We hoped you enjoyed the show. It was for you." Whether you oppose the war or not, we’re in it now and there are people risking their lives for it. The least we can do now is RESPECT THAT.
ellajedlicka21 03/24/2003
Michael Moore did great work with Roger and Me in the early '90s and released his new masterpiece Bowling for Columbine in 2002. His atypical documentary format is perfect for producing thought-provoking films. The intelligence and passion that is obviously involved in the Moore experience is obvious with the final product. We need more people like him to present an idea and amplify the message through facts and interviews of people on both sides of the argument.
resisobilus 02/17/2003
His direction is geared to sending his message, and it works. Agree or disagree with the message, admit that he knows how to deliver it.

i don't feel one bit sorry for that worthless jerk charlton heston. he deserves to have lost all of what little popularity he still had. big ups to mm for having the cojones to go where few have dared in the name of civil justice.
Gecklund311 01/12/2003
Pompous ass who constantly clubs you over the head with his view rather than trying to let the viewer make up their own mind. Thoroughly obnoxious lout who badgered Charlton Heston so much that he ran him out of his own home - it says a lot about Michael Moore that he makes you feel sorry for Charlton Heston.
PoorOldEdgarDe rby 04/05/2001
I've really enjoyed everything I seen that has been directed by Moore, (Roger and Me and The Big One). Both films are sort of in your face documentaries where he puts himself into the line of fire so to speak by actually confronting the people he's criticizing (sp?). To top it off he pretty funny while he does it even when sometimes you start to feel uncomfortable for the people he's ripping on.
