NYY = Evil Empire... ;) Yeap, Yanks have had a great history, and have had many great players don their striped uniform. Have won many games, many series, many World Series. However, while I admire them for all of the above, I simply do not like, respect, nor care for them as a team. Why? When you watch them and/or their fans, its like they expect the games to be theirs, that the rest of the league owes them something. Sorry, I'm an underdog kind a guy. And it has always been the Red Birds [I'm from StLouis area], Red Sox, or White Sox for me. And to top it off, my doc said that I'm actually the sane, intelligent one here... ;) Wait, what was that sound??? Oh, that was the sound of the Yankees sucking wind after blowing a 3-0 lead... the first team to ever do such... tsk tsk... toooooooo bad... ;)

the only guy on that team i respect is derek jeter because he actually played through the yankees farm system....other than that, the yankees are the best team money can buy.....it's not even fun w/them around......so they suck and so do new yorkers!

Someone here said that buying a championship is easy when you have Steinbrenner's deep pockets. Might be something to that. However, George wasn't around for the full 23 (or thereabouts) championships that this glorious team has won. It's obviously the great talent that has graced Yankee Stadium over the decades that is its shining glory. And I suppose that through the years other deep pockets (beside Steinbrenner) helped. But that takes nothing away from my admiration for this team. Loved them from my boyhood days in the early 50s and still cherish my Mickey Mantle baseball card which I have somehow managed to hold onto (along with a Whitey Ford).

The Yankees always have been and always will be the best team in MLB. I am a Lakers fan and relate well to the Yankees and Yankees fans because everyone else hates us only because we always win.Both teams are on the same boat because they dominate their sport and are the most powerful, glamorous franchises for their sport. The Red Sox are an Ok team, but they lack the magic and power of the Yankees. To the Yankees and the fans, keep your head up, no need to worry about the Sox and those other pesky teams who think they can beat the Yankees but they really can't.

The single greatest franchise in the history of sports...........and I'm from Boston and I can admit that. I get embarressed when Sox fans say the Yankees suck, because bottom line is they don't and never have. Big payrolls can't buy heart and I disagree that they don't have any. They are resilient and will do anything to win during a game.

They feast on the less unfortunate less marketable teams by stealing their marquee players. It is not their fault though..... baseball needs a salary cap!!!!!!!

Yes they've been great, but all my life you went to see them in Chicago to see them lose...which they didn't do too often. But ya' gotta hate 'em, it's tradition. As as for Steinbrenner, he can bite me.

I don't like the Yankees, but it's tough to give a bad rating to a team that's won nearly 30 World Series. Let's face it, if any of us were in Steinbrenner's position, we'd be signing Giambi, Sheff, Musssina, and trading for ARod if it meant getting a ring. Maybe it's unfair, but those are the current rules. Be angry at the folks who enact those rules, not Steinbrenner.

Currently, the Yankees are in first for the Eastern Div of the AL, 1 game ahead of Boston. They place 3rd in the entire AL, behind Anaheim and Minnesota. What you all were seeing in April with the Red Sox and the Yankees (with the yankees losing miserably) was that 1) Boston has a team chemistry, a team spirit that enables them to work as a unit rather than separate players. that gives them a distinct advantage over the yankees, because 2) the Yanks don't have that yet. they haven't had that chemistry, that sort of team unity since the late 90's-2000. So many players have come and gone, the only ones who are still around from the time period mentioned are posada, jeter and bernie. I think I'm starting to see it come together for them, and I think it is why they're doing better in the standings. Both teams are good- both have a multitude of excellent, talented players and good management (although I'd argue that Joe Torre is better) so it really all comes down to who wants it more: the team that hasn't tasted victory since 1918, or the one set on defending it's dynasty, it's legacy? My money is on the Yankees.

You guys are correct the Yankees have won the most World Series Championships. But as they say those are HISTORY. As of today I believe the Yankees are Number 2 behind the Florida Marlins. As far as this season goes we will just have to wait and see but until Oct the Marlins are number 1

I don't like the Yanks but I have a respect for them and can admit that they are the best franchise in the history of baseball. Anyone who doesn't believe it can count how many World Series they've won. Like him or not, Steinbrenner is a genius who demands nothing less than perfection. I don't know about giving up Soriano - a 26 year old who stole hit 300, stole 35 bases, and hit 35 homers - but I've questioned Steinbrenner's decisions before and he's always wound up winning. I've been to several Yankee games and although congestion around the stadium and parking is a problem, the stadium is clean and the games have been a blast. But trust me don't cheer for the Sox, I got hit with a water bottle last time.

I watched a couple of their games, and they seem to do ok. All my friends seem to go for this team, but there not that great.

I am the same way (JorganVonStingle) ive always been a Yankee fan, and i AM NOT a bandwagoner, i am also a lifer. Yankees are the best team, and always will be. Some of the greatest baseball players were Yankees. Just because this franchise has the money doesnt mean people gotta hate. Also, im very upset about the 2003 World Series, to see the Marlins celebrating on OUR field was upsetting. But to be brutally honest, it didnt seem the Yanks were in the game, they didnt play like themselves, and i think they tried to hard to keep the Marlins from winning. I admit, i cried when they lost, but it didnt help when they showed Jorge Posada (my favorite player) crying. The Yankees are still number ONE in my heart, and always will be, i love the Yankees and i dont care what anyone else says about them negativly, us true Yankee fans know whats right. GO YANKEES!!! Ok, you've got to respect the Yankee history and tradition but that's about it. Heck, any team can be great year in and year out if they have the highest paying salary in the sport. Steinbrenner dishes out so much cash it's sick. They're the sole reason MLB needs a salary cap. Everyone loves the Yanks and that's reason enough to not root for them. Go Cubs! Ive been a Yankee fan all my life, and have season tickets. Been to 4 World Series games, best team in baseball. True, a lot of this success would not have happend without George's wallet, but teams like the Mets, and the Redsocks have spent almost as much, if not more money, and still failed to win. I give credit to teams like the A's and the Angels, who have managed to win without a lot of money. Too bad the A's are losing Tejada, which will take a huge chunk out of their offense.

This is a bought team with a ridiculous payroll, but as far as the players go, they are very good. It's natural to go where the money is. Clemens, Pettite, Wells, and Mussina, all make up a strong pitching staff. Jeter is a decent shortstop, Posada is an okay cather, Giambi can hit homers, Bernie Williams is good, Matsui will learn how to hit American pitching.

All that needs to be said is 26 championships. Winning 4 in 5 years this in just these past 8 years. They do have a very good team too this year that can definetly win another World Series, but they need a stronger bullpen, and some young starting pitching like Oakland.

As Bill Parcells likes to say, You are what you are! And the Yankees are number 1.
