My great-grandfather (we're not genetically related) died of this in 1900 or thereabouts. So far, it hasn't presented any particular problem for me, but my sister, who happens to be in her early 20's and is genetically related to me, had to have it taken out recently, and her discomfort was allegedly quite intense. In the emergency waiting room where she was brought and deposited, she vomited compulsively without attracting any attention and someone finally complained to the front desk, "You have to do something for that girl; she's in agony." Hopefully, I'll be able to get through the rest of my life without having to worry about my own appendix (impacted wisdom teeth are enough of a headache for me right now).

mine has been gone for a decade. they took it when I was in for other surgery. guess that is customary now. take the appendix while they are at it. at least if saves for another surgery.
