Taste of the Wild Dog Food 5

Let me start off by saying this: a raw diet IS ideal for a canine companion, but not economical nor convenient for most people in the working class. Now that we have that out of the way - anyone who comes on here and gives Taste of the Wild one star just because YOU feed your dogs raw meat is not helping anyone and just makes you look like an idiot.

I have been feeding Taste of the Wild to my dogs for the past 6 months. I buy all 3 formulas and give a different one every meal time. My dogs have never had digestive issues, their coats are shiny, and their skin is healthy; even my picky eater is excited to chow down no matter what the flavor of the day is! It is really the best food you can get for the price.

Now, let me address a couple of topics people have mentioned on this forum...

1. This whole preservative nonsense is just ridiculous. Have you read the ingredients labels on the food YOU eat? There are preservatives everywhere! Another poster has already shown the response from the Taste of the Wild staff explaining (and not denying) the the amount of ethoxyquin that exists in the pacific stream formula - it is practically non existent! COME ON PEOPLE! The FDA has approved the use of aspartame in diet sodas as a sweetener after 7 rejections! IT IS A DEADLY INGREDIENT! Yet we are all still alive. Interesting. So before ridiculing this food because you're an idiot, do some research.

2. Taste of the Wild brand and Diamond brand food is made by the same people. SO WHAT!? Natura makes Innova, Evo, and California Natural. Merrick has their original formulas, but also makes Before Grain. And Iams and Eukanuba are the same company. (Oh sorry, is this a holistic pet food forum exclusively?) Anyway, the point is Taste of the Wild is manufactured in a different plant than Diamond. The recall of Diamond should not scare anyone. Even our precious peanut butter has been recalled, but we still eat it now that it's OK again.

I work at a pet supply store and have seen my share of unhealthy, overweight dogs. People come in all the time and buy the cheapest garbage food for their dogs full of corn (by the way, Science Diet is mostly corn and by-products - Veterinarian Recommended? Only because they SPONSOR those particular Vet offices - Tell everyone you know!!!). This shovel food causes a myriad of problems down the road, but all these people care about is cost. It happens everywhere. Anyone who is nit picking at the ingredients in one of the best, grain free, economically friendly, and holistic pet foods (yes I am talking about Taste of the Wild) is wasting their time.

My Dogs couldn't be happier eating this food, and *WOAH!* I can afford it! Feed your dogs this food! You will not be disappointed! Though I must caution those who feed their dogs low grade foods like Kibbles n Bits or Beneful (and the like) - you might want to go to California Natural first, it is a great transition food into the holistics. Some dogs might react negatively to the high fibrous extracts and high protein content (from REAL MEAT) in the Taste of the Wild and might have some digestive upset but give it time. I'm proud to feed my dogs Taste of the Wild!

Taste of the Wild Dog Food 5

We have been feeding our 5 year old golden retriever mix home made food(meat + vegetables),but now I started working, and I don t have time to make home prepared meals for him all the time.
I just want to spend all the time I have playing with him,not in the kitchen.
I ve been searching for a good kibble for last 2 years,we ve tried blue seal, timberwolf, evo, but before we ve found tow, nothing seemed to work for him.
Now everything is just perfect, his apetit, hair, health,he is just doing great on this food.
I ve been feeding him for last 6 month on High Prairie, but now, since it is getting wormer outside,I am switching him to Pacific Stream, less fet, less proteins, less calorie, same quality.
I like this food, and I am rating it 5 stars.

We've got a 10.5 yr old boxer/bully mix that we've recently switched from Timberwolf Organic Blue over to TOTW Pacific Stream. Our boy is not a picky eater who inhales every meal, so he's not the best subject for a taste test. He also has pretty sever food allergies to most proteins, but does seem to tolerate fish based diets much better then other protein based diets.

There have been some noticeable changes with our dog's digestive system since we've made the switch. For whatever reasons, for the past several mos the Timberwolf did not seem to agree all that well with his system as his stools were becoming increasingly loose/runny and he seemed to produce a lot of gas. We gradually switched him over to the TOTW and once the switch was mostly complete, his stools really firmed up with appropriate volume and the gas problems disappeared. For our dog, we believe the Timberwolf formula may have just been too rich for his system to tolerate.

The price is also a major positive as compared to some of the more highly regarded grain free kibble products on the market. For a high quality kibble, the TOTW is very reasonably priced IMO around $40 + tax for the large bag in my area. In comparison the Timberwolf was running from $65 to $80 + tax for same size bag. However, the Timberwolf is more caloric dense, so it does take more of the TOTW to provide the same amount of kcals.

The list of ingredients and guranteed analysis reads well (assuming the label is accurate). There seems to be varying opinions on how high the protein content should be depending on the lifestage of your dog with some recent studies suggesting higher protein levels to be better for senior dogs. This product seems to offer a moderately higher level (which were comfortable with) as compared to many foods, but still nowwhere near the protein found in Orijen fish for example, so if you're looking for ultra high protein food, Orijen might be something to look at. As noted in other reviews I've read, there don't appear to be any statements that the food is Ethoxyquin free, so that may leave some concern in some folks minds.

On the downside, our dog's coat does not appear to be as smooth and shiny as when he was on the Timberwolf and his skin seems a bit more dry, but we've started supplementing with additional fish oil so hopefully that will improve the skin and coat.

Also, after purchasing our most recent bag, we've noticed some variation in shape and color of the kibble vs. the previous bag we purchased. We used to experience some of the same with the Timberwolf, so not sure if some variation from lot to lot is normal and to be expected.

All things considered, we're pretty happy with the results we're seeing from this food thus far. Main reason for not giving 5-star rating is due to seeing a slight deterioration in coat condition vs when he was on the Timberwolf, but overall, this appears to be a solid product with a pretty decent track record from most of the people that have put it into their feed rotation. Of course, what works for one dog may not work well for the next, so as always, YMMV.

I found the Pacific Stream formula after I found out our GSD was allergic to grain. I was considering this or EVO and found that this was good for all life stages so my 5 y.o. GSD and his 9 w.o. sister can both enjoy it. It is also alot more reasonably priced than the EVO. I love their ingredients and my dogs love the food. 2 weeks after feeding my his I cant believe how beautiful their coats are and his skin has completely cleared up. I highly recommend this food!

Since they first showed up,I have been feeding my dogs nothing but grain free brands.
I did rotate it from time to time, cause I couldn get them to like the one that they did their best on,but the one that gave them gass and softer stool.
After finding Pacific Stram TOW,we finally have both.
They just loved it from the first time they ve tried it,gases are gone, and the stool is perfect.
I do however still feed them raw twice a week, but I am not rotating anymore, cause I see they are doing great on TOW,and there is no need to.

I have a boxer, as you know these dogs have very sensitve belly's. Taste of the Wild has helped in many ways! The main points are: she has no gas, her anal glands do not have to be suppressed, she is satisfied and has no health problems. She has been on this food for almost 2 years and I highly reccomend this brand of food, and the price is very competitive. She is happy and I'm happy. We alternate between all three flavors and they all work.

I have tried several types of food with my chihuahuas and this one is the best so far. i tried nutro, and canidae and both gave them the really runny loose stool. they have only been on this food for a little over a week and i have already noticed a huge difference in their stool. the gas has stopped completly. the only down side is that its made by diamond... but the way i see it is that every company has some sort of a down fall now and then, and it was several years ago that the incident happend. i really like this brand and that its grain free is amazing!

Everything is perfect, from nose to tail so to say.
We ve been on this for over a year. I do however rotate it with RAW and Wetlands, but mostly they are on High Prairie.

This is a fantastic food with great results for all 3 of my dogs! The fact that Diamond makes it shouldn't be a deterrent, it's a grain free food-- the recall was for tainted grain. This food has been recommended by countless vets.

My dogs LOVE this food. I feed my babies only no grain dog foods and I switch them between this and Orijen. Some people might think that the cost is prohibitive but for my dogs, 1 bag of this will last a little over 3 weeks (2 feedings daily)and my dogs aren't small (siberian husky & black lab/golden retriever mix).
I recently got my neighbor to switch her pets to a no grain diet and she has noticed a marked improvement in her pets activity levels, bad breath is gone, and they are eating/pooping less.

Yes,it is made by Diamond, and yes it is the best food we have tried so far. My boys are doing great on it. We had severe problems, with our midle dog ,he had diarrhea all the time,it is cause he was allergic to grains, after that we ve switched to some non grain food, but it was too high in protein for him,and since his kidney function isnt 100 % ok,he had to swithced to a lover protein diet, finally we ve found TOW Pacific Stream. Now we are eating it for 6 months, and we are doing great on it,we just had a vet check up last week, and vet told us Pasco is better than ever, all thanks to TOW.
I know Diamond had some problems, but they didn t hide it,they didn t try to "put it under carpet" like some others did.
Go to FDA list, and look for recall list, Royal Canine(the worse food we ve tried, especially for the price you are paying) for example had a major recall ,but they are silent about it,and almost every brand had somekind of recall, problem is,everyone is picking on Diamond, cause they are largest corporation, and in the mean time, everyone else is going "without punishment".
And I did try to find out current Diamond status, when it comes to safety and quality, and they have some 99/100 points ,so,that is really good enough for me.
I ve found several experts on food agree with me,Diamond had its problems, but who didn t?
Problem is most of them did "get away" with it,and Diamond didn t,so I do know a company that makes the food I ve been feeding my dogs with, did had some problems, but what do you know about yours?
TOW and Wellnes Core, are the best dog foods I ve ever tried, and I sure will not give them up,cause everyone knows of some problems in the past, but would give up of those that I find out did try to hide it.
But again,it is just me.

Does anyone know what company this dog food is from? I heard it was from Diamond, one of the companies that made the tainted dog food where lots of dogs died. Look it up, try to find the company name that makes this.... it's not easy, I wonder why? And I'm not sure I want to give them another chance, if it is them.

My 18 week old boxer will eat the Canine formula if I mix it with peanut butter. I seem to always have picky dogs. She has been on it for 4 weeks now. I will say that she has lots of gas but then again she is a boxer. I may rotate this food with something else. We will see. But first I will use this food for another month and then switch to some other natural no grain brand and see the difference.

Ingredients are great and my girl loves the flavors...not the fish as much, but she'll still "wolf it down". : )

She does great on this, her fur is super soft, her feces are smaller, and the shedding seems to have subsided a great deal. I love the concept of no grain, but some of the other brands just had too much protein and she didn't do so great digestively with those. She is thriving on this. This will be a new, permanent addition to her rotation.

I am feeding my GR puppy the TOW for 3 months now, I have switched from the Innova which wasn't very tasty to him and made him gassy. In the beginning I was very happy and he seemed to like the food without me adding anything to it. He looks very good, his stools are excellent and his coats is beautiful. I have though noticed recently that he always seems hungry. He eats much more than recommended on the bag, and outside it seems like he's always with the nose on the ground trying to fins something to eat (bad dog!). It gets expensive if I need to buy him a huge bag every two weeks. I may switch to something else eventually.

I've been feeding TOW Pacific Stream formula to my APBT now for almost 6 months and the results are amazing. We found he s allergic to all grains, including rice. He had inflamed itchy, flaky skin, yeasty red ears, run-you-out-of-the-room gas, and his anal glands clogged at least once a month. We had tried so many foods that TOW was just one more in the long line. I didn't expect the great results we've seen for our dog. He stopped itching within days of the total transition and his ears were less red. After six months, he has a beautiful coat and clear skin. His ears are completely clean. He only gets them wiped out at bath time now. The smelly gas is gone and he's had no more anal gland problems. We are able to feed less food and maintain a great weight and his stools are smaller and solid. This food may not be for every dog as each dog is an individual but it has made a world of difference for my dog.

I had been feeding my two Chinese Cresteds Eukanuba Sensitive Skin for months until I was informed that the formulation had changed and was compared to "grocery store" quality. I purchased my first bag of Taste of the Wild and one of my cresteds had a severe allergic reaction to something in the food. It took me a few days to realize it was his food. His abdomen was flaming red and he was scratching non-stop. The ingredients looked wonderful. I then discovered that it manufactured by Diamond. Coupled with my dog's allergic reaction and Diamond's questionable reputation, I stopped feeding them Taste of the Wild immediately. This food is highly rated based on its ingredients but if it makes your dog sick, the ratings mean nothing. I have since read several warnings about feeding such high protein foods to your dog due to the potential long term health risks and that it should not be fed to puppies. I don't want food that needs a warning label.

I feed my dogs, one GSD mix and one sighthound, the High Prairie formula. It is the only food I've tried that works well for both dogs. Their coats are fluffy, shiny, and odorless (not so on Science Diet, Purina, or Blue Evolution). My GSD mix has a lot of allergies and this food takes care of it all - no problems. No gas, no itching, firm stools, lots of energy (my dogs reached their fastest Flyball times while on this food), and the dogs love the taste!

*I add Missing Link to their food, so all claims might not be true for TOTW by itself, however, even with other foods, problems always creeped up until now*

I went through a bag of Taste of the Wild (first fish, returned it because my Shiba Inus began scratching frequently and then Bison). They had an allergic reaction to something in the food, at first I thought it may be the fish, but when I switched to the Bison, they still were scratching. They began getting scabs from scratching and biting so often. I took them off of the food (downgraded from EVO), and then put them on Orijen, which cleared up their itchiness in a day or so and they love the taste. Taste of the Wild is a great tasting food, but the ingredients aren't great (obviously). Its cheaper than other 'premium' foods, but you get what you pay for. Orijen is expensive but totally worth the extra money!

He used to shed and scratch alot. Had a house full of hair ALWAYS! Since he has been on this food he has been great. Energy levels are up and his coat is soft and fluffy. He is a long hair Akita. Oh, I have him on a partial raw diet also. I put raw chicken in with his food. Anything from gizzards to chopped up leg quarters.

This is marketed as a grain free food which is good for some dogs. My boxer pup just would not really eat this food.  I think this is just a preference thing.  I had to add rice and apples so he would eat it.  Yup, he is picky.  My other guy will eat pretty much anything.  Although I know about Diamond and their not so great reputation, Diamond makes a lot of dog foods that are relabeled under many different brand names.  It's hard to keep track.  Also, some dog food lines use their manufacturing facilities.  Two known examples are they make Kirkland dog food and Solid Gold uses their manufacturing facilities.  Another user shared that tid bit.  I'm still on the hunt for my dog's perfect food.

Your dog doesn't get loose stools at the beginning from using taste of the wild. It starts after months. And as I was,so excited that my dogs (picker eaters) were loving it. But kept on reading about the pesticides the are put on the vegs. & fruits.Wondering if the gas and runs were related to that.Thats why I went to Organix, and now normal bowel movements and etc. Much healthier bright eyed, super shiney coat. Just a big differance.

Finally a kibble that doesn't give my dog loose stools! So far I'm quite impressed with TOTW dog food. I'm feeding my dog the Pacific Stream (salmon) formula and he loves it. I've had such a problem finding a kibble that agreed with my pup's digestive tract. I tried just about every super premium brand out there but my dog suffered from loose stools and/or diarrhea. I will eventually try the other TOTW flavors to add more variety to my dog's meals as he has a tendency to get bored with his food after a while. Hoping I have the same success with them as I have had with Pacific Stream.

I looked into this food as a possibility for our 7 year old poodle mix...we decided against it because it contains tomato pomace (a filler), and contains egg product instead of whole eggs. Also the potato which isnt that great either. Otherwise the ingredient list looks sound and it is much better than a lot of the competitors offerings. All in all its at least better than something containing grains.

"Taste of the Wild" is Maury Povich's favorite food.  Mo-Mo really likes the meat and vegetable surprise.  Where does he dine, you ask? He dines exclusively in his green food bowl w/his name on it-it simply says "Maury."

Taste of the Wild Dog Food 5

This is a very good food.I have a retail pet supply shop and I have a lot of customers that are very happy with this food. remember you do not need to feed as much as you would with other foods that have grains in them.i feel this is a great product

Taste of the Wild Dog Food 4

All three of my dogs like this kibble - even the cats will eat it! My dogs love this food. We add a small amount of raw meat to this product and moisten it just a bit - this is about the third bag that I bought - I have tried lots of other top quality foods such as Merrick, (which they also love) - and so far, they haven't left a morsel in their bowls with Taste of the Wild.

Taste of the Wild Dog Food 5

My aussie is 13 yrs old and she has been eating Taste of the Wild {Smoked Salmon flavor} off and on for the last few months. When she eats TOTW, she does great, but when I buy some other high quality dog food with grain in it [no matter what brand} she starts itching alot. Then when I put her back on TOTW again, she quits itching. She loves it and I like the ingredients. She has been on Nature's Variety {grain free formula} and did good on it, but it has a higher fat content and my dog needs less fat in her dog food. TOTW is a little cheaper than Nature's Variety grain free formula. I'll keep my dog on TOTW since she is doing good on it.
