The best right fielder I ever saw, without any question.
A proud, complicated, and testy man with his share of eccentricities, he played for decades in relative obscurity for a small market team and was often overlooked.
Unlike some on this list, his death was not due to self destructive over-indulgence, but in an effort to help the victims of disaster.
A great ball-player, and a fine man.

For weekend retreats, I go to this small-town with the 'Saturday' trip to the barber shop. . .the old-timers talk about Clemente like a few of my brilliant professors talk about art. . .they all say the same thing- "You had to see this guy". . .despite his hypochondria, his eccentricities, there is no denying Clemente's greatness nor denying the sadness of his death in attempting to help others. . .

Clemente was like the godfather of Latin baseball. He was perhaps the most notable Latino baseball player of his time, and was the first elected to the baseball Hall of Fame. He was a hero to many Latin Americans and died in a plane crash while attempting to provide disaster relief in Nicaragua.
