I've had hamsters, rats and a ferret! The hamsters were fun to watch roll around in their mobile see through balls but other than that didnt really play. My rats were fun to watch play with each other and loved to be carried on my shoulder and be played with. My ferret was like a puppy that never grew up and enjoyed getting into everything and anything but also had a sweet personality. Execpt you have to be very careful when playing with ferrets because at times they tend to get rough and bite and not let go! Plus you have to keep them in a good well ventilated area because they tend to smell ALOT if enclosed!! They need a lot of toys because they will get into ANYTHING! They can make a shoe or a box the coolest hideout/hangout ever!! Very entertaining to watch!! Not good for small children tho. For small kids I'd recommend a young rat. They make good pets, are clean and affectionate despite theyre ucky appearance to some adults!! And their tails arent that yucky! Believe me I was a little hesitant with their tails at first but afterwards I loved touching their tails!! DO NOT! I REPEAT DO NOT!! Have a ferret and another small pet like a hamster or rat in the same household!! I've heard the most terrifying stories of Ferrets killing rats and shredding hamsters to pieces and them leaving them as presents for their owners!! Remember Ferrets ARE CARNIVOROUS!!

This breed is one of a kind!! I had an aussie who lived to be 17 years old and didnt show his age until he hit 17! He was a low maintanced dog that was smart, learned super fast and had traits I still havent seen in other dogs before! He needed to be introduced to strangers since he was aggressive but once introduced he'd let the person come in but would still keep an eye on them. He had a GREAT memory when it came to relatives who he hadnt seen in years!! And was super aggressive to dogs he did not know! He was a natural born alfa and when we lived in California he had a habit of destroying our 2 by 4's whenever a big truck or dog would pass by!! This dog would literally bite the wood until the board broke in half! We at one time even had to build a double wood fence between our back neighbor because with our Aussie and his Heeler they were tearing down the fence with both dogs attacking both sides of the fence! These are dogs do have habits of nipping at heals so watch out when theyre pups. My Aussie was very cool and everyone was amazed with his personality. We had several ranchers who wanted to buy him off of us because of his size. For an Aussie he was pretty big since he weighed about 75lbs and was probably as tall as a Rottweiler, however he still was super fast on his feet and had the small Aussie paws. Another thing that surprised us was that he had pearly white teeth up until the day we had to put him down...no tartar build up what so ever!! These dogs do require a lot of exercise and demand a strong owner to train them. My aussie wasn't really good to have around kids until he was about 5....for some reason he didn't enjoy the smaller kids and infants.

I have a German Shepherd mixed with a Red Heeler and he's a very unique dog! He's got the German Shepherd look without the pointy ears but is very protective of everyone especially children and old people!! He has certain strangers that he will allow and others whom he jst does not like. If he doesn't like a stranger we take it as a warning of the type of person the stranger might be. Everyone knows that if a dog whos not usually aggressive doesn't like someone its for a good reason!! This dog would be great as a service dog! His patience is infinite and he loves to help people! My grandmother sometimes tends to lose her balance and he will stand next to her and she can hold on to him and even put weight on him until she regains her balance and he'll jst patiently stand there and wait for her to do so. I have 6 dogs and if I'm lacking a leash he's the one to be without it. He's the type of dog that comes with an invisible leash and doesnt move an inch without your permission! Very loving dog and can sometimes demand a little too much attention but will be happy with what you give him! He'd probably be considered the under dog of our pack but when he sees a dog being bullied by one of our other dogs he's the first to defend the smaller dog. He's even gotten into fights to go defend one of our smaller dogs in rare fights that occur within our pack. These dogs are very cool! Need to be trained tho....my German Shep did have some destroying issues when he was smaller but everntually he understood.

Labs are pretty cool dogs. We have a 90lb Lab that was given to us as a pup. He's goregous, well built, big bear head and heavy, muscular body...a STUD when you look at him...has a pro football player look to him haha Most people say.."omg he's huge!" "He's scary looking" "Look how big he is," etc. But if you were to get to know him......COMPLETE DORK! He's a ball crazy, drooling, baby balluca, doofusie dog!! Learned the basic sit, speak commands and loves to eat! This is my first lab and he's pretty aggresive towards people and unkown dogs. Altho with time he learns to accept new additions but we really have to keep an eye on him with new pups or small animals. We have 6 dogs and he's the "muscle" in the pack. My Springer is the alfa and if my Springer barks at someone or something whom he does not like....my lab is the on them like white on rice! He's not fixed and tends to be aggressive towards other males when breeding. Be very careful with these dogs since they're big and when busy playing fetch can ignore anyone standing by and easily knock them over! My black lab (Shadow) has knocked my grandmother over as well as my younger sister when playing fetch or chasing something. Good dogs for Lab lovers but not my favorite breed of all.

This is a very spunky breed. I took my Rattie in as a stray who we named Gunner. And he's very independent, active and loves attention. He plays with my Shih Tzu although sometimes they tend to get in small fights...this breed is very smart and at times can be stubborn in both a good way and bad. IDK if my Rattie likes to wander because he was a stray or maybe thats jst the independence of the breed. He's very much a houdini but seems to know where he's safe and remains there...sometimes. He's the only dog that we own (out of 6) that still likes to tear things up. And its not because he's not exercised. We have two acres and can play with him for hours and if he finds a shoe he'll still tear it up or be a bad influence and get the other dogs to join in on tearing up things. He's very adorable with his one ear up, one ear down look and has been the first and only dog my Step Father has liked...very suprising since before Gunner came along my step dad claimed he didn't like dogs! Not yappy at all and great mouse hunters!! Very determined little dogs that can keep up with the big dogs!!

I have to agree 100% with all of these previous reviews! A Springer is the most AMAZING breed ever! I purchased my first Springer about 6 years ago and he's....WOW! lol These dogs are SUPER INTELLIGENT, loving, loyal, protective, funny, optimistic and energetic! They are goregous dogs on the outside...anytime I take my Scooby anywhere...out of all of my dogs he gets the most attention!! He knows every trick in the book and amazes people due to it. People love hearing him speak and him giving you high fives and fetching the ball. He entertains anyone who's never really been exposed to have an intelligent dog. These dogs are so easily trained that we included him in one of my high school media videos that we did and he was a great actor and hit all his commands - learning them in about 2 days! This a great breed for families looking for a family dog and maybe for first time owners who are willing to train and exercise. These dogs are born to please their owners at all costs!! Their goal in life is to make you happy and keep you that way! My Springer is very vocal when it comes to talking to you..atm he's our pack alfa and is the first to warn of an approaching stranger but when told to heal he does so. They LOVE attention and the more you give the more they want to please! Once you get a Springer you're always going to need to have a Springer throughout your lifetime!!

I purchased my Shih Tzu about a year ago at 6 weeks of age from a friend of the family. We've realized that when you get the pups at about 6 weeks the dog turns out to have a much better personality when its older. However, it is difficult to get a pup this young because its still a baby, but with the right feedings and attention the pup will be fine. I, atm own 6 dogs (A Labrador, an English Springer Spaniel, a German Shepherd mix, a Boxer, a Rat Terrier and my Shih Tzu.) Out of all of them, my Shih Tzu is my number one baby. He's the sweetest thing ever, completely spoiled and bratty. He's a dork and very funny. He was a little difficult to potty train but he finally got the hang of it at 12 weeks of age - since then we've never had an accident! He's an inside and outside dog who demands attention. I cannot go to the restroom to take a shower without him pawing under the door wanting to get it or barking at the back door demanding that you let him in. These might be habits that some people consider bad but they don't bother me so I let them go. One thing I did find interesting is that we recently bought our 6th dog...my 9 week old Boxer named Casey about 3 weeks ago and we did notice him get a little depressed at first but a couple of weeks later he got over it and has now become a puppysitter. He has taken over that title and we can literally say "Gizmo, I want you to lay down with Casey and go to sleep" and he will right there and then do it. Its very funny and he seems to enjoy having an important job of taking care of our pup. This breed is not for everyone! They demand attention and would probably die without it! My Shih Tzu cannot spend 2 minutes without being in someone elses arms or too far away from me! He seems to be a one owner dog or it might be because he spent most of his puppyhood only with me....I'm not really sure. He will play with my 10 year old sister on the trampoline but if I walk too far away he'll stop playing. They're great dogs for anyone who leads a calm life but is at home most of the time!!!

Boxers are a goregous breed of dog! They have the most optimistic, loving, intelligent, friendly, protective and funny personality any dog could ever have! On a bad day this breed will make you laugh non stop at the retarded and dorky things they do. These dogs are born to please their owners any way possible! I do agree they are not for every owner due to the breed being very active but if you have a big yard and other dogs the Boxer will enjoy the company and entertain himself while you're away. You MUST remember to train these dogs as pups so that they do not pick up bad habits. As pups they are very intelligent, learn quickly and hate to be punished. My 9 week old brindle female named Casey is very sensitive to vocal tone change. She picks up quickly when its a serious NO that you're saying and she understands that whatever she's doing is bad. At 6 weeks of age she learned her sit command as well as her stay command. She's very vocal and has a habit of "talking" back to my Mother when my Mom is punishing her. We have noticed that some Boxers tend to be one owner dogs. With Casey this is the case. Although she adores the family she prefers to be with me at all times. However, I have had one Boxer/mix who was a complete family dog - I suppose it depends on the dog or it could also depend on its breeding. But as I've mentioned before the Boxer breed is a great dog to have as a family dog when raised as a pup and given the needed attention!!!

I have recently purchased By Nature - Puppy Formula for my 9 week old Boxer Casey and she adores it! She had previously been on Eukanuba for Large Breed Puppies and it had caused some constipation, but since slowly switching over to By Nature her once digestion issue has disappeared. When I was looking to switch to a new brand of dog food I scoured the web to compare dog foods and found that By Nature was a good brand because it did not have corn, fillers and other ingredients that dogs had trouble digesting. I strongly recommend this brand at least for pups!
