So far, my recently adopted 5 year old Golden/Border Collie mix loves the stuff! I was a little worried after having read every single review and response here, but decided to try it anyway. Mia came from the pound, and she joined my other two on a raw diet. After 2 months of thriving on it, she suddenly came down with heinous itchies and was pulling her hair out. Her coat lost its luster and softness. Although it may be seasonal allergies, I really didn't want a red, bald dog. (Else I would have gotten a Mexican Hairless or a Chinese Crested)

Although I haven't taken her in yet, the vet suggested fish. The raw cost could be prohibitive, so I thought I'd try this. She LOVES it and gobbles it up. I was worried about reported diarrhea, but her stools are actually better than they were before. Another review suggested (in a lovely manner) that the diarrhea might be from the detox process of coming off grains and onto "good" food. Made sense to me. Mia is coming off 75% meat, 25% veggies, no worry about that. Also, the problem of gas from both ends seems not be be for her. Thank heavens -- she was already pretty gassy and belchy. Not much of a lady, in fact.

If Mia responds well to this diet, with some added raw meat, I may just put my other two on it, too. The cost of the quality raw meat and organic veggies is already pretty prohibitive -- why not make it easier on myself???

To be continued . . . .

OK, it has been a week on Orijen now. The digestive upset Mia had from before Orijen (gas and belching) is gone. The only thing is that she is pooping out more volume (for lack of a better word). I guess that's a good thing. I'm supplementing, for the time being, with 3V caps and a sardine in the morning.

I do have to agree with the reviews that say that the food is fairly stinky, but their breath isn't. At least the house is big and well-ventilated!!

One month into the 6-fish and I am very happy!! Mia's coat looks healthier and she is scratching much less. Her skin is clearing up, too. I'm hooked (so is Mia).

Short for Sir Francis Drake, he is, indeed, the Queen's Buccaneer.

Funny-looking and strong! I like shar-peis. The puppies are so dense and heavy that I almost tipped over when I picked one up!

Don't we all call our girls "Princess" at some time or another?

Millie is my beautiful dog's name. Short for Amelia Erhardt. Of course, this is my favorite dog name!

Did you give EVO or Innova? They are different foods, and EVO is not for puppies. As so ineloquently stated above, 2 kibbles would probably not cause the blood and mucous in the stools.

In the long run (and you have a puppy) it pays to research the food and the possible "side effects" before you buy. (Sorry, no pun intended, there!)

Have you tried adding pumpkin to the meal? It soothes digestive upset. Have your tried adding any digestive enzymes (like Geneflora), that might help, too.

SF09 -- I am so sorry about your terrible experience with this food. I also feel that these responses are over the top and cruel. We have all been new dog owners, even though most of us don't remember all the mistakes we made with our first dogs.

The fact that your baby threw up everything it ate all day makes me think that his stomach was upset earlier in the day. Next time, try adding a little bit of canned pumpkin to his kibble for a few days when he's not feeling well. It's soothing to the tummy and to the digestive tract. Although many vets recommend rice, it tends to stop up -- like a cork. The yuk must come out at some point.

If you want to try the canned food again, wait until your baby is completely well and stool is regular. Then try introducing it very slowly with kibble, like you were doing. Since it claims to be a variation on "raw," be careful, and expect some digestive upset. Weaning any dog from store-bought, grain-based food to a better quality meat and veggie diet may be hard on the digestive system, but it's well worth it.

My dogs have been on raw for almost a year, now, and they are thriving. Do your research on brands and spend what it takes to give your sweetie the best possible! Good luck.

I love shibas! There are a couple at my dog park. I researched Ziwipeak online, and it is absolutely prohibitive. Not only do I have a Golden mix, who weighs in at 65 lbs (underweight), but I also have a pit/jindo mix (75 lbs) and a chow/aussie mix (82 lbs). I already spend close to $100 a month on home-prepared raw food. THe only reason I'm going back onto commercial is because of Mia's skin problems. ($100 for 11 lbs?!?!?!?)

You live in DC? It seems that you'd have lots of places that cater to "shooshy" poochies there. I live in LA and we certainly do! THanks for the heads up on completepetmart. Maybe I'll see what the Orijen costs through them!!! Have a great weekend.

Got it! Thanks for responding. 9 lbs? What is she? How old is she?

It's interesting that you are finding that her coat has gotten better on Ziwipeak. I'm hoping that my golden mix, who has all your Mikos' symptoms, will glossen up (is that a new phrase I just made up?!?!). If not, I'll try Ziwipeak. She's coming off raw, so her reaction hasn't been as bad as the other's I've read, here.

I was worried about small, hard poops, because my other two get those when thay have too many bones -- too much calcium.
