Charles (Charlie) Chaplin 4

Better than average, probably a 3.5 which I'm generously rounding to 4, but not much more than that.

I'm also curious, where are the folks who brand Polanski with the kiddy-raper tag when it comes to this guy? Try to to be consistent, folks.

1) The definition of "kiddy" has changed drastically in recent years. It wasn't all that long ago that 12 year olds were getting married in much of the USA. Now we pretend that adolescents would never have sex unless tricked, coerced or forced into it by a "pedophile".

2) Polanski apparently drugged his victim in order to have his way with her. I never heard any such allegation about Charlie.

Actually many of the "facts" about Polanski's offense are tainted by investigative techniques of the time, and by the actions of a publicity hungry judge (who has been called irresponsible by other members of the judiciary)

While I agree that people should be judged in the context of their time, it is not disputable that Chaplin fled America to avoid prosecution for sex crimes, much as Polanski did.

No surprise there. How is it that the guardians of honesty tend to be extremely dishonest (with a license from the USSC to do so)?

When I read Lena's musings on Polanski and Swiss banks, I wondered about the embarrassment factor, but I doubt very many Americans feel as embarrassed as they should over our collective prudery.
