I know many people have excellent results with Lasik surgery, but I'd never do it myself due to the nature of the risks. I probably know 10 people who've had it done, and four of them have had what I consider big problems. One of them experienced a malfunction of the machine during surgery, and she had to let her eye heal for a couple of months before she went back to have it done again. A neighbor of mine experienced an inability to see up close after the procedure was done, and two friends had to have the procedure redone- one whose correction wasn't strong enough to begin with and another who lost the correction over time. I've read about people who ended up with dry-eye syndrome and seeing permanent halos around lights. If I couldn't improve my vision any other way, I'd probably be willing to try it. But with glasses and contacts, I'd never take the chance.
