John Wooden

John Wooden is one of only two people elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame as a player(1961) and coach(1973). John Wooden coached Indiana State(1946-48) before becoming head coach at UCLA where his greatest success was achieved. His career coaching record is 667-161(.806). His resume includes 4 seasons with teams that finished 30-0 and 7 straight national championships(1966-73). His UCLA teams won 10 national championships in all. At Pauley Pavilion his teams were an outstanding 149-2(.987).

Seven straight National Championships. This achievement speaks for itself - we'll never see anything else like it again. To think about all of the strong basketball programs, and to imagine that NOBODY could beat Wooden's team when it mattered for seven years. Unbelievable.
