In the big scheme of things, April is an average month. Here in North Carolina, spring arrived the month before in March and by April the novelty has worn off leaving only wet weather and the yearning for May and summer. Serious school time is still ahead (if memory serves) and it is still to cold to swim. On the plus side, life returns to both flora and fauna and Easter brings brighter colors to the wardrobe. April is named for the Latin word aperire which means to open, and the month was considered sacred to the Roman goddess of love, Venus.
