There might have been a pretty large hole in Northern Asia right now had Reagan done this. But really, Reagan pushed the Soviets against the wall. Their days were numbered by the 1980's as a result of their economic policies, but yet it could be fairly stated that Reagan's strategies pushed them over the ledge without too much conflict.
