Forrest "Phog" Allen

Forrest Allen coached several schools but is most noted for his time as head coach at Kansas where he compiled a record of 591-219(.730). Allen led his 1952 Kansas team to the national championship. He also helped found the National Assocation of Basketball Coaches(NABC) and became its first president. Allen finished with a 10-3 record in the NCAA tournament and reached 3 Final Fours. His career coaching record is 746-264(.739).

1 national championship may not be enough to qualify as a great coach but Allen won 3. 2 of them were Helm's National Championships because they came before the NCAA tournament went into effect. Not only was he a student of Naismith, but also a teacher to Rupp and Smith.
