Martin Luther King Jr.

1929–1968; American clergyman and civil rights leader. He led the boycott (1955–56) by Montgomery blacks against the segregated city bus lines, and he attained national prominence by advocating a policy of passive resistance to segregation. There is no question that Martin Luther King Jr. was very instrumental in advancing the cause for Civil Rights. Through his eloquent speech and insistance on nonviolence, King was able to inspire an entire generation of Americans to devote themselves to the Civil Rights movement. King believed deeply in equal rights and justice for ALL Americans, and he fought for that cause until the end. While he was a flawed man, he fought deeply for a cause he believed to be right and ultimately died for that cause.
