Born in 1961, Wayne Gretzky began his NHL career with the Edmonton Oilers in 1979. After playing for the Los Angeles Kings (1988-1996) and the St. Louis Blues (1996), the Great One retired as a member of the New York Rangers in 1999. At the time of his retirement, he held over 60 NHL records, including points (2,857), goals (894), and assists (1,963). He also won the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP nine times and four Stanley Cups. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1999, Gretzky's number 99 has been retired by the NHL.
