Fritigern (Visigoth, late 4th century)

Enkidu

The Crazy Horse of the 4th century, he easily could have been defeated by the Romans had then not been overconfident and led by a man who was an envious glory-hog (Valens). Fritigern was a competent military leader, but not a great one; still, he pulled off the greatest defeat of Roman arms since Cannae, because the Romans thought he would be easy. It was never the same for the Romans after that terrible hot afternoon in 378 at Adrianople.
