One of the most famous playwrights of all-time, William Shakespeare (1564-1616) was also an accomplished poet. It should be noted that in Shakespeare’s day all writers were known as poets, the distinction between genres came later. Shakespeare counts amongst his traditional poetic output hundreds of poems, including 154 that make up the Shakespearian Sonnets.
