As far as the first 24 episodes go, it was a fairly good Giant Robot Anime, but as far as the last 2 episodes, the special, and the movie are concerned dont watch them unless you are well versed in Christian Mythology and the text of the Dead Sea Scrolls otherwise you may feel yourself be left behind.
Another pitfall of the series and later movie was, is the fact that for the most part the first 24 episodes were inconsequencial to the storyline other than in introducing the characters.
