Both my wife and I were terribly moved by this book. The descriptive language gives new meanining to the commentary to the effect that war is a period of boredom punctuated by periods of abject horror. As a VN Vet who was shot down, and scortched, after 3 months of service, I could not imagine being sent back to the front time after time. My appreciation of our troops who fought for the duration in WWII in all Theaters, under similar circumstances knows no bounds.
