This album was very good at the time it was released. The songs were basically written to showcase the videos. Think about it...everytime you have heard the song Thriller, you had to think about the video at the same time. Same for Billie Jean, same for Beat It. Nothing wrong with that. But I don't think the songs by themselves could have done as well without the videos. Now that should be true for everyone but actually it's not. How well did some of Stevie Wonder's classics (Innervisions, Songs in the Key of Life-album of the year, which he actually won 5 grammys for-without videos, mind you, etc.) do without videos? Answer: excellently! On the pop charts as well as R & B charts. Michael is no Stevie but he an amazing performer to watch as well as listen to (well, back in the day that is). Thriller gets an OK-3 stars just because the songs are a tad forgettable without the videos to accompany them.
