It looks as if we have lost another valuable asset here on RIA. When I first joined, IJR and I had a misunderstanding but he was courteous enough to correspond with me and I soon discovered the mistake was mine. From that point forward we had a mutual respect for each other. He is the only atheist who ever complimented me on my posts on Christianity which proved he was one of the few who intellectually understood another's point of view and was willing to acknowledge its validity even if he did not agree with it on a personal level. I was lucky enough to hear from him before he left and I understand his reasons for leaving. Anyone who has been here for any length of time knows there are cliques, mutual admiration societies and a certain amount of tolerated cheating going on. (Yes, I am a "helpful" whore but at least my girlfriend had a legitimate account) If you are the right person who kisses the right ass you can get away with ANYTHING on RIA and IJR had finally had enough. I am supremely pissed off we have lost not only one of the most amusing writers the site has ever had, but many of us have lost a friend who was a genuinely good human being. This is a black day for Rate It All and on behalf of Ignatius J Reilly, let me say to the cliques and cheaters and all the "right people"  on the site, you can kiss my ass.

The most common form is having a second computer in another location (such as at work) and creating a second account for the purpose of boosting the helpful ratings of your original account and those of your pals.

Who really cares about that. Let me tell you, your life has to be pretty empty if you're so worried about where you stand on RIA in terms of helpfuls. If that's what it takes to give you a self-esteem boost, then perhaps may I suggest that you get a life? And we all know who cheats on this site, there's no need to elaborate on that question.

Tracy, he said nothing to me about how many helpfuls he received but did say he was discouraged by the cheating others were getting away with so I was speaking on behalf of IJR. I have my friends and I have my detractors and that isn't going to change. It does appear however, some of the people who claim they do not care about helpfuls seem to care a lot more than they lead us to believe. It is going to be interesting to see how many people will criticize what I have written and not address the fact we have lost a long time contributor who added a lot of color and intellectual honesty to the site.

As always, I'd encourage folks to let me know directly if they have allegations of folks cheating. IJR never raised this issue with me before self purging - I wish he would have.

RIAADMINISTRATOR, this is one of those circumstances where your hands would be tied. If I worked at a job where I had access to a computer online and I created a second account for the purpose of patting myself and my friends on the back, it would look like a legitimate account and techincally it would be except both accounts would originate from the same person. In cases such as this, where a person has access to more than one computer from different locations, we have no other option I can see but to depend on their honesty. I guess as long as we are dealing with human beings there will always be some who give in to temptation knowing the chances of being discovered are practically zero.

I dunno Flick. I have access to pretty sophisticated tools that can break down exactly where any member's helpfuls are coming from. There are alarm bells that are triggered when a large number of helpfuls are going from one member to another member. When you combine these tools with stuff like IP address tracking, writing styles, and posting patterns, it becomes pretty easy to tell whose cheating. We also have a crack team of cryptologists on staff to break codes. Well, that part is not true, but the rest is.

I was sorry to see IJR leave as well. I liked his posts and the way he referred to himself as "IJR".i sometimes can see there are cliques, and know for sure I am not considered "miss popular"It is too bad when there is cheating on here. I know that I share my computer with a family of four and three of us write on RATEITALL. I do the most but my son and daughter like to come on RATEITALL sometimes. I will miss IJRs posts.
