
The Athletics began play in 1901 in Philadelphia. They moved for the first time to Kansas City in 1955 and then again to Oakland in 1968. The franchise has won nine World Series championships (five in Philadelphia and four in Oakland), most recently in 1989. An AL West team, the A's play their home game at Network Associates Coliseum in Oakland, CA. Athletics in the National Baseball Hall of Fame include Connie Mack, Al Simmons, Rollie Fingers, and Catfish Hunter.
