Warsaw is the capital of Poland and is the country’s largest city with a population of 1.7 million residents. Located on the Vistula River, Warsaw is close to both the Baltic Sea and the Carpathian Mountains. Warsaw has the distinction of being the site of the beginning of WWII when the Nazis invaded it in September of 1939. The site of the infamous Warsaw Ghetto, over 40% of Warsaw’s Jewish population was murdered during WWII. Warsaw is home to Powazki Cemetary, one of Europe’s oldest cemeteries
