It's rather easy to say that Kerry lacks absolutely any backbone, but I don't necessarily think that's his affliction. Rather he is being extremely cautious; at this point he's taking positions according to the wind with the belief that people aren't taking notes. However I never buy into that kind of strategy; especially in this political climate, people are paying attention and what they see is a candidate who takes different positions everyday on the Iraq war and a host of other hot button issues. One day he says that he would have still authorized the war in hindsight, the next day he makes appeals to the anti-war contingent. I understand that he's trying to appeal to as many people as possible, but there comes a point when people start judging your actions as unprincipled and expedient. War and peace is not an issue that one should be rather ambivalent on. That's what is beginning to concern me about Kerry. He's a fairly intelligent man, but he might just have the wrong priorities in mind when making important decisions.
