If you like Vince because you live in NoCal or FLA, or admire his athleticism, that's fine, but let's not confuse that with what he brings as a baller. His ass in an All-star jersy is disrespect to a baller that gets left at home cuze he didn't sling a ball through his legs 5 years ago.
Here's the breakdown:
THE GOOD
- style, flash, pizzaz... nobody looks better when in the zone.
- talent... the man oozes it.
- charisma... yup yup.
- jump shot... even with his wack-ass fade-aways he still cans plenty.
- DUNKS. PERIOD. (not so much these days tho)
- ability to take over a game offensively... hasn't done this in awhile though.
- Balanced person without a huge ego... very refreshing.
THE BAD
- D... for a player with his physical gifts, his D is OFFENSIVE.
- Doesn't move well without the ball... usually just goes through the motions (check Reggie Miller for the how-to on this).
- Poor fundamentals (always fading on the jumper, always going for the steal or block instead of doing a Bruce Bowen impersonation and MOVING YO FEET).
- Lacks leadership ability... getting max money but doesn't want to assume the responsibility.
- Lacks intensity (smiling and yucking it up from tip to final whistle).
- Doesn't hit the weight room in the offseason. Most pro's build their bodies... VC looks like the same freshman at UNC all these years later.
- Doesn't work on his game in the offseason. Jordan added a dimension each year... Vince is regressing.
I like Vince as a person. He was always about teamwork and sharing the glory. He's a balanced human being and that's why he doesn't put everything into basketball like MJ did. But he's getting MAX money, and with that comes expectation. I heard a quote from his Mom (worst adivsor ever) saying she told him not to take too many risks on the basketball court... good advice from a Mommy, but not for a guy that is supposed to be leaving it on the court (like for instance A.I.). He even admitted to John Thompson the other day that he didn't bring the intensity in Toronto cuz he was so talented. You can blame the Raps all you want, but the franchise player must take a lions share of the blame. For hells sake he flew to his damn graduation when he was playing for a spot in the Eastern Conference finals... Mark my words, Vince might get into every All-star game until the end of his career cuz of wack-ass basketball fools that still vote for his ass over more deserving players, but he won't ever win a championship as the #1 guy... EVER.
