Ronald Reagan was perplexing, not just to his enemies, but to his followers and fans, as well. I did not watch this speech, read about it afterward, chuckled at the typical what an idiot our president is reaction from the press, which did not include FoxNews at the time. In the old USSR, nobody was laughing, them's fightin' words and they knew they were not up to the fight. When the Berlin Wall was penetrated (it never did fall) I was stunned and began to understand the importance of this speech and many others he had made over the years. A rabid argument took place during the prep for this speech, and most of his advisors told him he should leave these words out. He heard them all out, chuckled, looked at his speechwriter pointed to him and said, that phrase stays IN the speech. Evil by any other name is just as despicable and Ronald Reagan wsn't afraid to call things by their right names.
