I was kind of young but I recall that day vividly. The tragedy spanned that entire day as the abductions occurred early in the morning (Eastern Time) until about 9:00 PM that evening when Jim McKay mad the horrific announcement that They're all gone. It was the first time I heard the term TERRORISM. Having also learned about the Holocaust, I kind of wondered at the time (and to this day) that had the Olympics been anywhere else instead of Germany, would the outcome have been different? It seemed liked the rescue efforts were bungled up royally by the German security forces. I find it plausible that some baby-faced SS executioners in 1945 could have feasibly grown up to become middle-aged police lieutenants who may have been more supportive of the captors than the captives. The fact that Israel won their first Gold Medal in the '04 Olympics is a testament to the resiliency of this pit-bull tough little country.
