This was more important back in the 1950s and 60s when there was more reconstituted and lesser quality oils on the market. Today many oils are made by the same manufacturer and in the same plants, they're simply put in bottles with different labels. If you don't have a loyalty to any particular brand then all you need to know is that the oil you choose meets the API rating for your engine, although some turbo cars require an oil specifically formulated for vehicles equipped with turbochargers. Regardless of what make or model car you drive, if there is any doubt about quality or proper fit, you can never go wrong using the manufacturer's oil and filters.
