In a practical sense, I give this subject a 5 (Vital to learn.) If people payed attention in English class, there wouldn't be so much of this shorthand SMS writing, people would spell properly etc. On a personal note, it depends on what teacher you have. Some teachers can make the subject really boring and hard, whilst some make it more enjoyable. With me, I didn't like learning all of these novels, I was more of a short story writer.
