I have mixed feelings about Medjool. First, the good stuff. The roof deck is awesome. You get an incredible back view of the city (similar to the Potrero Hill view), with also a cool overhead of gritty Mission Street with it's palm trees and Mexico City like commotion. The appetizers were good enough, though a tad bit pricey, and the numerous space heaters are a nice touch.
Now, the bad stuff. This is clearly a destination, as opposed to Mission hang out. When I was there, there were tons of wasted Marina looking people shrieking and carrying on. In fact, Medjool's tagline is someting like "an oasis in the Mission," with the obvious implication that the Mission sucks. As retaliation, I had a good time thinking up alternative taglines like "a blight on the mission" and "a growth on the side of the Mission." Regardless of the marketing, the roofdeck is cool enough to merit a visit.
