Born in 1917, John F. Kennedy was elected President of the United States in 1960, narrowly defeating Republican candidate Richard Nixon. As President, Kennedy faced a number of foreign crisis revolving around the Cold War, most notably in Berlin, Vietnam and Cuba. In addition, Kennedy was faced with growing civil unrest here at home.
