My personal pet peeve. I've always told my kids I'm not their friend I'm their father. Friends are peers and that's why so many fathers don't get respect. The kids see them as peers. It is not an equal relationship. My Favorite saying to my kids when they were growing up was This is not a democracy, it is a dictatorship, and I'm the dictator. They hated it but they respected me. Now that they are older we are all best friends.
