If I am not mistaken, I believe that olives are actually a fruit. They are great for garnishes and eaten on their own. I am not too fond of the ripe black olives canned in water, other than as a kid putting one on each tip of your finger, there is not much flavor to them. You cannot make a good Greek salad without a Kalamata olives and a lot of feta cheese. I like the good little wrinkled looking Greek olives as well on cold meat subs.
