This is what people in America consider classic cinema now? Whatever happened to standards of taste? They take one of the most dramatic incidents in early 20th century history, a tragic episode ripe with opportunity for genuine drama and emotion, and focus instead on a boring, trite, insipid (not to mention unconvincing) romance that wouldn't make it on a daytime TV soap opera. Oh, how I long for the days when film-makers concentrated on realistic, complex human characters and trenchant dialogue to fuel their movies instead of special effects. Sad, but I guess if enough people are willing to keep shelling out their hard-earned dollars to see this s**t why should the film-makers even bother to try?
