Forrest Gump 3

Asked this elsewhere: Did Forrest speak for or against the war at the Rectangle in D.C.?

That's what I thought as the P.A. sound system conveniently gave out. Just another moviemaker's gimmick to avoid taking a stand - on either side of the issue. Ergo, down to three stars for the scriptwriter's lack of spine.

It seems that this movie has become sort of a conservative anthem, hasn't it? I actually found it pretty charming, and usually struggle to figure out why some policos try and claim some movies, music, books as their own...

Agreed. And yet, moviemakers in general should stay away from raising controversial issues which they will muddle up in ambiguity afterwards. As it turns out, movie audiences who were for/against the war in Vietnam were deceived, through dishonest trickery, into believing that Forrest shared their convictions, lacking the 'courage of their convictions' so to speak. The movie enjoyed acceptance from either side, on what amounts to disrespect in a very deep and very real historic quandry. No joke.

I think that's a great point. Blockbuster is the ultimate goal i guess, and if you want to have a blockbuster, you have to please everybody.
