Billie Joe Armstrong (guitar, vocals) received slings and arrows from obstinate punk fans when his band Green Day leapt from the underground and onto MTV in 1994. Born on February 17, 1972, in Berkeley, CA, Armstrong is the youngest of six children; his father died from lung cancer when he was only ten. Armstrong formed Sweet Children in 1987 with bassist Mike Dirnt. The group's name became Green Day in 1989, and Al Sobrante (drums) joined the band, eventually replaced by Tre Cool. 10/30/2007		I disagree somewhat...In 15 to 20 years people will still jam to Led Zep and Floyd and the likes, but many will be saying, "Who is Green Day?"

10/29/2007		I wouldn't rate most of the legends on this list any higher than Billy Joe if we're basing the choice on skill and taste. It's a popularity contest... much like our political races... people pick their favorites based mostly on who they find sexy.
