Controversial ending to basketball gold medal game in 1972 between USA and USSR

In the most controversial game in international basketball history, the U.S. lost its first ever Olympic contest, ended a 63-game Olympic winning streak and a string of seven consecutive Olympic gold medals.

As sickening as this was, the absolute tragedy that took place earlier in the same Games has a way of putting this into perspective. The US lost(?) a basketball game. Some people lost lives.
