Amazing how many TV/radio preachers come out of my home area: KC. And how many teach erroneously about salvation. Westlake continues today's trend in churches and media ministries of teaching the false gospel that you are saved by trusting in Christ for salvation-PLUS something else from you--which is in fact is the adding of commitment and works. Westlake also teaches that you salvation is not necessarily permanent; that is can be lost. I think that Paul had something to say about those who add works, commitment to works as a condition for salvation. (Gal 1:6-9)

Philoah, you couldn't be more wrong about his teaching... of all people, Dr. Westlake teaches salvation "purely by faith"... I challenge you to provide some form of evidence to the contrary... which won't be found, if taken in context. If you don't have evidence, you admit your error. This is a "core doctrine" of the Christian faith, and there can be NO room for "adding to" ones' salvation... I'm sure he would repeat Pauls' cry "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God"... that even the "faith" is not of ourselves, but of God!! How can a mere mortal "add to" something an infinite GOD >gave< us? Absurd. I have contacted him to see if he'll respond himself. Regarding "losing" your salvation. Dr. Westlake teaches as quoted above, that salvation is a >gift< from God that we personally have to >receive<. It's not forced upon us, we have the personal volition and decision to accept it, or leave it. Likewise, as any gift, if we decide we don't like it anymore, or we make the >decision< that we don't want to live according to the gift-Givers' commands, then we CAN walk away from it... but you can't "lose" it like it's something hard to hold onto. If we have >made up our mind/heart< that we WANT God's gift of salvation, through faith in the atoning work of Christ, then >HE< will hold on to US... we don't have to worry about our own "weak grip", as it were.
