Romero is the executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union. The ACLU often defends the rights of unpopular extremists, and are criticized by all angles of the political spectrum. They defend not only the rights of Americans to express mainstream views but radical, often hateful ones as well. Their past clients include Oliver North, the KKK, NAMBLA, CAIR and the NRA.
