Several things have been improved upon on the shelf of pain relievers; tylenol first came along making it easy to bring down a child's temperature without the fear of aspirin complications, then along came Motrin, which brings the fever down even quicker. Tylenol as been discovered to be bad for the liver, and so the best thing to do is to take it in moderation; that is to use as little as is needed to do the job. As far as all the shapes, sizes, coatings and all the other things that makes finding your favorite difficult, it might not be such a bad thing, I am guessing most of them are being bought out. Only thing to me is the one I like is when they made them tinier, therefore easier to swallow.
