I am related to Richard Stockton, and was named after him. I drive proudly by the Richard Stockton Service Station whenever I am on the New Jersey Turnpike. Richard Stockton played an active role in the drafting of the US Constitution. Sadly, he was taken prisoner by the British during the War for Independence, and ended up renouncing his role in leading the independence of the United States, and signed an allegiance document to the king - becoming the only signer of the Declaration of Independence to go back to the Brits. Stockton died soon after that as result of health complications stemming from his period in prison.
